A tanuki, or raccoon dog that I did...

These creatures are from the dog family, a canid, and are native to Eastern Asia and introduced into Western Russia and Eastern Europe.

They are commonly shown in Japanese Folklore, but this piece I created is based on the real animal, the real tanuki or raccoon dog

You might be right, I haven't looked into which canine they are most closely related to... I just know that they are a primitive canine like the bush dog, and I also know that foxes and the other canines split paths and the tanuki/raccoon dog was before then...

these creatures are adorable, I like this more than the cartoony ones, although those get a laugh out of me ~nyan. this actually makes me kind of sad ~nyan
